This otherworldly landscape, this ancient Viking heritage?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To this day, and despite having visited 20+ other countries, Norway still ranks pretty high up my list of favorite destinations. Europe (or the world, for that matter) have left such a lasting impression on me. Tucked between seven hills and seven fjords on Norway\u2019s rugged west coast, Bergen is a city that feels both ancient and alive, with a moody atmosphere that only adds to its charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of the city lies Bryggen, the old Hanseatic wharf and one of Norway\u2019s most iconic architectural sights. Dating back to the 14th century, these colourful wooden buildings\u2014crooked, weathered, and utterly photogenic\u2014tell stories of Bergen\u2019s seafaring past. Now home to small museums, artisan boutiques, and cozy caf\u00e9s, they\u2019re the perfect place to wander and get a sense of the city&#8217;s long and layered history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Bryggen is just the beginning. There\u2019s the fish market, with its rows of fresh seafood and lively atmosphere; the aquarium, great for a rainy day (of which there are many in Bergen); and the funicular to Mount Fl\u00f8yen, where panoramic views of the fjords and city below will make you forget about the hike\u2014or the drizzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bergen\u2019s charm also lies in its quieter corners: cobbled lanes like Kn\u00f8sesmauet, lined with white wooden houses and flowering window boxes; small, independent coffeeshops offering strong brews and even stronger shelter from the famously temperamental weather. These tucked-away spots in the Old Town invite slow wandering, spontaneous detours, and a moment to sit and just take it all in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even after visiting 20+ countries, Bergen remains one of my favourite destinations. That\u2019s like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower\u2014just not done. The fjords are the heart and soul of the country, and honestly, they blew me away. The best way to see them? Definitely a cruise. It\u2019s simple, relaxing, and honestly, one of the most beautiful things I\u2019ve ever experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I loved most is how peaceful it is. Unlike tourist-packed spots like the Eiffel Tower, the fjords feel like your own secret hideaway. Just you, the water, towering cliffs, and waterfalls pouring down like something out of a dream. It\u2019s the kind of place where you can really pause, breathe, and soak in how incredible nature can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the best part? No crowds, no noise\u2014just quiet moments of awe and wonder. Whether you\u2019re snapping photos or just staring out the window, it\u2019s impossible not to feel completely present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re heading to Norway, don\u2019t even think about skipping the fjords. The views from up there really give you a sense of the city\u2019s mix of old and new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oslo is also packed with museums, which are great for diving deeper into Norwegian culture and art if you have the time. But honestly, one of my absolute favourite things was a photowalk along the harbour. The light, the boats, the modern architecture\u2014it\u2019s incredibly photogenic and just a lovely way to soak up the city\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you get the chance, put on your
