Naturally, there\u2019s no such thing as \u201cdoing London\u201d in a day\u2014I lived there for a year and still didn\u2019t see everything!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While London isn\u2019t the most walk-friendly city in the conventional sense (many will call me crazy for walking these entire routes), there\u2019s something about exploring on foot that just feels right. Especially when you\u2019re new to a place\u2014walking lets you <em>really<\/em> see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in London, there are plenty of reasons to swap the Tube for a pair of good shoes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Public transportation is expensive\u2014and often unpredictable. <em>Planned engineering works<\/em>, anyone?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The photo ops are spontaneous and endless. Mews, pub fa\u00e7ades, floral doorways\u2026 let\u2019s just say the inside of a Tube carriage doesn&#8217;t quite compare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll probably eat your weight in cake, beer, and chips\u2014walking is an excellent excuse to keep going.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being 15 times bigger than Paris, it\u2019s still possible to hit a good number of major sights on foot\u2014with a little planning. And if you&#8217;re only in town for a short time, every minute counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I\u2019ve mapped out three walking itineraries, each covering a different area of the city. They\u2019re all routes I\u2019ve personally walked, carefully noted for the most beautiful streets and scenic turns. Technically, you <em>could<\/em> do all three in one day (challenge accepted?), provided you&#8217;re wearing the world\u2019s comfiest shoes and are powered by a steady stream of Red Bull. Not just because of the movie, but because it\u2019s absurdly pretty. It feels like a Disneyfied version of London: pastel townhouses, tree-lined streets, fashion-forward locals, coffee-sipping mums, and a parade of Instagrammers capturing it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marvel at the colourful homes and lavish mansions of Notting Hill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Throw in a coffee or cake stop\u2014my picks:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Biscuiteers<\/strong> \u2013 194 Kensington Park Rd<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coffee Plant<\/strong> \u2013 180 Portobello Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hagen Espresso Bar<\/strong> \u2013 63A Ledbury Rd<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Notting Hill Bookshop Caf\u00e9<\/strong> \u2013 15B Blenheim Cres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wander through the serene Kyoto Garden in Holland Park.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to Kensington Palace and the vast Hyde Park.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Admire Queen Victoria\u2019s legacy at the Albert Memorial and Royal Albert Hall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pop into the spectacular Natural History Museum (even if just for the entrance hall).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hop on the Tube from South Kensington to Piccadilly Circus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Walking in London &#8211; Buckingham Palace to Houses of Parliament<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m36!1m8!1m3!1d9933.950623356362!2d-0.13390705770263672!3d51.50426882203093!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!4m25!3e2!4m5!1s0x487605284b601641%3A0xffa5020435a597ad!2sGreen+Park!3m2!1d51.506949999999996!2d-0.14276!4m5!1s0x48760520cd5b5eb5%3A0xa26abf514d902a7!2sBuckingham+Palace%2C+London%2C+UK!3m2!1d51.501363999999995!2d-0.14189!4m5!1s0x487604ce3941eb1f%3A0x1a5342fdf089c627!2sTrafalgar+Square%2C+London%2C+UK!3m2!1d51.508039!2d-0.128069!4m5!1s0x487604c38c8cd1d9%3A0xb78f2474b9a45aa9!2sBig+Ben%2C+London%2C+United+Kingdom!3m2!1d51.500729199999995!2d-0.1246254!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sca!4v1437078119577\" width=\"1000\" height=\"650\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This itinerary takes in some of London\u2019s most iconic landmarks\u2014and rightly so. What\u2019s a visit to the UK without a proper dose of royalty? While the route isn\u2019t the most direct, it\u2019s undoubtedly the most regal (and photogenic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start at Piccadilly Circus station and walk to Trafalgar Square. Technically its own entity and not a borough, this compact district spans more than a thousand years of history\u2014from the Tower of London, built in 1078, to the shimmering skyscrapers of the modern financial hub. Just across the river, the South Bank is equally rich in culture, especially with gems like Shakespeare\u2019s Globe and Borough Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Circle the Tower of London and imagine the dark, dramatic chapters etched into its stone walls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cross Tower Bridge, pausing for that classic panoramic view.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaze up at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toeuropeandbeyond.com\/the-view-from-the-shard-in-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Shard<\/a>\u2014and if budget permits, treat yourself to its observatory.
